What Are Women Made Of?
By Eve Hoffman
Growing up, I was taught the nursery rhyme, “What Are Little Boys Made Of?” It goes something like this: “Snips and snails and puppy dog tails – that’s what little boys are made of. … Sugar and spice and everything nice – that’s what little girls are made of.”
I said to my mother, “I want to be made of snips, snails and puppy dog tails…why can’t I?” Her response, “You can be made of anything and do anything you want to. Challenge yourself and never take no for an answer.”
Over the years, my mother supported me when I was weak, and when I was strong. I was very fortunate to have her support, no matter what – good or bad!
During my career, I realized that girls compete with each other, but women empower one another. Stop competing! We need to stand together to build, encourage, support, empower and celebrate our successes! A quick message of support like “You Rock!” or “You’re awesome!” goes a long way.
Build up other women rather than tear them down, and incredible things will happen. We might even finally have sugar and spice and puppy dog tails! 😊
