Alliance of Channel Women is highlighting women who are Living the ACW Pledge: Women Supporting Women. We’re seeking nominations from the channel community for women – from the mailroom to the boardroom – who embody the oath in their words and actions.
Barbara Murphy, Vice President of Cloud Strategy at WekaIO, was nominated by Charla Bunton-Johnson, Global Director, Partner Sales, Marketing and Development at WekaIO.
In what way(s) is your nominee an example of Living the ACW Pledge of women supporting women?
Barbara Murphy is a trailblazer for women in the workplace – supporting recognition and awards. Both men and women alike look up to Barbara because of her education, technical “chops” and seasoned experience. Her leadership has spanned many roles in her career, from CMO to VP of Marketing and VP of Strategy. She imparts her knowledge and will mentor others to help them get to the next level.
What is a specific example of what she did for you and when it happened?
When I was at NVIDIA in 2018, I had a great male mentor, but I wanted a female mentor to understand my view. I asked Barbara to be a mentor to me, and she had agreed. Barbara went even farther and hired me at WekaIO, reporting to her. I look up to her and her accomplishments as a woman and leader. She is so technically savvy, and I admire that quality.
What impact did her action have on you and/or your career?
Today, she is still a mentor to me, even though I don’t report to her now. Barbara believed in me when others did not (even when I did not believe in myself). She encourages women to support each other and collaborate in the workplace.
Barbara brings ideas to the table and will find new ways to help others, such as coaching, personal development and introductions to people in her network.
