September offers several opportunities to consider what belonging really looks like in action.
As we recognize Hispanic Heritage Month and International Equal Pay Day, we’re reminded that belonging is more than having a seat at the table. It’s having equitable opportunities to contribute, grow, lead and be recognized for the value you bring. And creating that kind of workplace doesn’t only happen through policies or programs. It happens in the everyday choices we make for one another.
Try One This Month
Amplify.
Hear a great idea in a meeting? Give credit to the person who shared it — especially when their contribution might otherwise be overlooked.
Advocate.
Pay transparency starts with better conversations. Learn how compensation and advancement decisions are made in your organization and encourage clarity around expectations and opportunities.
Sponsor.
Mentorship offers advice. Sponsorship creates opportunity. Recommend someone for a project, make an introduction, mention their name when an opportunity comes up or invite them into a room they aren’t already in.
Connect.
Your network is an asset you can share. Make one introduction this month that could help someone else grow.
Take Belonging to the ACW Member Portal
Belonging gets stronger when we know one another beyond a name on a membership list.
This month, log in to the ACWConnect Member Portal and do one small thing to strengthen our community:
Introduce yourself or update your profile. Welcome someone you haven’t met. Comment on a discussion. Share a career win. Or recognize an ACW member who has helped open a door for you.
